The Arts are Alive at MCDS!
  • Enrollment for beginning Early Bird Orchestra (EBO) is at an all-time high with Mr. Mofsky.
  • The 5th graders have all learned the "50 Nifty United States" song with teachers, Mrs. Pelletier and Ms. Alfonso. They can be heard singing around campus!
  • John "Groovy" Pantesco, our new Technical Director is busy researching the equipment we will be using in the Center for the Arts.
  • The Contemporary Music Ensemble (CME) has their first rehearsal today with Mr. Wicker!
  • Our new Experimental Video Arts class is underway with Mr. Ordonez. This is the first year for this digital video for artistic expression class.
  • Ms. Mahoney's Middle school art students have been busy grappling with the concept of negative and positive space relationships through a variety of projects.
  • Mrs. Moyer's Lower School art students have all received their new sketch books and are learning basic drawing techniques. One child shared, "This is the best tree I have ever drawn!”

MCDS Junior Honored as Nominee for the 2015 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing

MCDS junior Francess D. received special recognition for being our school’s official nominee for the 2015 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing. Francess also received a Certificate of Recognition from the National Council of Teachers of English.

In total, 650 juniors were selected by their schools to participate in the 2015 program. Of those, 141 students were chosen as outstanding writers. Francess was one of only three students recognized in the state of Florida.

This superior achievement is a reflection of the teachers and the Humanities program at Miami Country Day School. A special thank you to Scott Brennan, Carolyn Dorn, Amy Gallup, and Susanna Linfield, our faculty judges in the interior selection process.
